The year 2025 was a special one for us at Wio Bank, as it was shaped entirely by the success of our customers. SMEs across the UAE continued to thrive, even in a changing environment. Families sought to improve their lives, build stability, and move closer to their goals – and we saw many of those goals reached. Their success is reflected in ours. A community of more than 300,000 people entrusted us with over Dhs50bn in deposits and more than $1bn in assets under administration.
Looking at this success and the pace of change around us, I am often asked what it means for our industry as technology reshapes how we live and work. As the CEO of a digital company, the expectation is that I have all the answers. The truth is that no one does. What we do have is a framework: a way of learning, experimenting, and preparing for what comes next. It is how we anticipate customer needs, identify emerging pain points, and build experiences that help people navigate change with more clarity and confidence. This mindset has guided us to design banking that is simple, transparent, and empowering.
When we talk about experimenting and learning, we must address the biggest catalyst for change across every industry today: AI. It is reshaping how organisations operate, how decisions are made, and how customers expect to be served. It may have been a buzzword for years, but this past year has shown real, practical outcomes. While many organisations pursue AI for optics or internal wins, our approach at Wio is different. We use AI not to cut costs, but to serve customers better; using technology and data to deliver support that feels more human.
We see AI as a set of specialised tools that give our people superpowers. Customers share common needs, but they also face moments when the right financial decision matters deeply. AI helps us support them with greater clarity. Today, customers using Wio Invest receive AI-generated insights that explain their portfolio performance in plain language. Behind the scenes, AI accelerates chargeback resolution, reduces false positives in compliance checks, and helps teams generate insights far faster than before.
Using AI well requires discipline. It begins with clear objectives and strong governance. Not every challenge needs an advanced solution. The goal is to enhance judgment, not replace it. When used thoughtfully, AI creates space for people to think more clearly, solve problems faster, and focus on work that adds real value. I saw this earlier this year when a team member delivered a remarkably structured presentation. Later, I learned she had used ChatGPT to organise her thinking. I was delighted. She combined her insight with the capabilities of AI to produce something better. Technology should elevate people, not remove them from the process.
Moving ahead, what matters is how we learn, adapt, and build around the needs of customers. AI will accelerate what is possible, but judgment, creativity, and empathy will guide how we use it.
And as we look to 2026, the businesses that thrive will be those that bring together talented people and powerful technology in service of their customers. This has always been our guiding principle at Wio Bank – because the only success that matters is the success of our customers.
