Home UAE Abu Dhabi UAE to unveil memorial for founder Sheikh Zayed The monument will be centred with a massive artwork by Staff Writer January 18, 2018 A permanent national memorial to UAE founder Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan will be unveiled in the capital Abu Dhabi next week, according to state news agency WAM. The official inauguration will be broadcast on major national TV channels and be available to stream online via the @FounderMemorial page on Facebook and Instagram. The monument will be centred with a massive artwork to coincide with the commencement of a year of commemoration to mark 100 years since Shiekh Zayed was born. Read: UAE declares 2018 as the ‘Year of Zayed’ The unveiling is set to begin at 9:30pm on Monday, January 22, but the Founder’s Memorial will not officially open to visitors until the Spring. The attraction will include “a range of personal encounters with the late Sheikh Zayed as a man and a leader, enabling people to gain a deeper understanding of his life, legacy and values”, WAM said. It is located at the intersection of 1st and 2nd street and will cover a total area of 3.3 hectares including the artwork in a public plaza at its centre.
