UAE suspends all night permits during its national disinfection programme

The UAE’s Ministry of Interior (MoI) has withdrawn all permits that allowed travel at night during the ongoing national disinfection programme as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus within the country.

The sterilisation programme begins daily at 8pm and ends at 6am the following day. It will continue until the morning of April 5.

In a statement, the MoI said, “In response to the commitment of the public and their adherence to all precautionary measures…suspending all permits, programmes, and applications of vehicles nationwide during the implementation of the National Disinfection Programme.”

The withdrawal of permits extend to all federal and local permits, including online applications for the movement of vehicles under the ‘Tajawal’ or ‘Move’ service.

The Ministry urged the public to stay at home during the disinfection time and not to go out unless it’s absolutely necessary to get essential supplies, such as food and medicine, or working in vital sectors; including energy, telecommunications, health, education, security, law enforcement, military, postal service, shipping and logistics, medicines, water, food, civil aviation, airports, passports, banking financial services, government media and the service sectors, including petrol stations and construction, reported official news agency WAM.

The workers’ identity cards will be checked and verified should they be found outside of their homes during the sterilisation programme.

On Monday, Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management announced an intense two-week sterilisation drive of the Al Ras area beginning March 31 during which movement of people and traffic in the area will be restricted even during the day.

A total of 664 coronavirus cases have been detected in the UAE, while the death toll stands at 6.
