Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) has contributed Dhs43m ($11.7m) in direct food aid for Gaza, in collaboration with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

The total financial support contributed by the organisation to the WFP since the collaboration began in 2021 is Dhs230m, state news agency, WAM reported.

The news was shared as MBRGI signed an agreement with WFP on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF), taking place in Davos, Switzerland.

Based on the agreement, the organisation will deliver its contribution to the WFP for direct food aid, which will benefit more than one million people in Gaza.

The WFP has been providing food to people inside Gaza every day since October 7 and reached more than 900,000 people with food assistance in December.

The organisation has also signed another agreement with WFP to implement sustainable food projects and deliver food aid to a wide segment of those most in need.

Both agreements were signed by Mohammad Al Gergawi, MBRGI’s secretary general and Cindy McCain, WFP’s executive director.

MBRGI committed to providing food support to Palestinians in Gaza

Al Gergawi said: “Following directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, we continue to provide food support for Palestinians in Gaza amidst the dire humanitarian conditions they face due to recent events.

“The recent contribution is part of the UAE’s ongoing efforts to support Palestinians and help those affected in Gaza. The agreement with WFP will help extend the reach of direct food support by WFP to reach one million people in Gaza.”

Al Gergawi also said that the agreement signed with WFP is a key step to providing long-term solutions for food security to support underprivileged populations, while contributing to SDG related targets such as ‘No Hunger’ by 2030.

In 2022, MBRGI spent Dhs1.4bn, whch helped 102 million people in 100 countries. Of this amount, Dhs910m was spent on Humanitarian Aid Relief initiatives that benefited 30.2 million people.
