UAE announces phased renewals of expired residency visas, Emirates IDs from July 12

Those whose documents have expired in March and April must proceed with the renewal process immediately

The UAE government has announced that phased renewals of visas and Emirates IDs that have expired since March onwards will begin from Sunday, July 12.

The move is a means to ensure that social distancing is followed during the renewal process and to avoid overcrowding at the application centres.

The following is the schedule declared by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA):

– Those whose residency visas and Emirates IDs have expired in March 2020 and April 2020 have to submit their renewal applications from July 12.

– Those whose residency visas and Emirates IDs have expired in May 2020 have to submit their renewal applications starting August 11.

– Those whose residency visas and Emirates IDs have expired in June 2020 or between July 1-11, have to submit their renewal applications starting September 10.

– Those whose residency visas and Emirates IDs have expired after July 11 are not restricted as to when they can visit the centres to submit their renewal applications.

“ICA invites all its customers, whether nationals, GCC nationals or residents who exist in the UAE to renew their expired Emirates ID cards and residency visas,” the ICA tweeted when confirming the schedule for the renewal of the visas.

On July 10, the UAE cabinet issued a directive requiring all those whose residency and identity documents had expired to renew their documents.

It decided to grant three months to UAE citizens, GCC nationals and residents inside the country to renew their documents.

It also agreed to grant one month to UAE citizens, GCC citizens and residents from the date of their arrival in the country (who spent less than six months outside the country) to renew their documents.

Administrative fees or fines will be collected after the deadlines for renewals have passed.

However, no financial fines for the exemption period will be collected.
