Ons Jabeur made history at Abu Dhabi in December last year, becoming the first Arab to compete and win the Mubadala World Tennis Championship. This is not the first record set by the Tunisian player. She was the first Arab woman to reach a Grand Slam quarter-final at the 2020 Australian Open. In 2021, she became the first Arab woman to play in a Wimbledon quarter-final. Jabeur is also the first Arab woman to win a WTA Tour title at the 2021 Birmingham Classic, a defining moment for the Arab tennis player.

Jabeur, who reached a career-high No 7 in the rankings in November 2021, is currently ranked at No 10 and is the highest-ranked Arab player — female or male — in history.
