The pandemic propelled the regional e-commerce sector to a new level and as the regional head of Amazon, Mouchawar ensured that the platform rose to the requirement. In 2020, Amazon.ae began delivering items to customers in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman from the UAE. A regional pioneer in the industry, Mouchawar founded Souq.com in 2005 and steadily grew it before it was acquired by Amazon for an estimated $580m. Mouchawar was also one of the team to develop Maktoob – the Arabic/ English email service provider that was sold to Yahoo for $164m in 2009.
