Azim Premji

Chairman, Wipro

Indian tech magnate Azim Premji’s Wipro, with a revenue of $11.3bn, stands among the country’s largest software services providers.

Premji left his studies at Stanford in 1966 to take over the family’s cooking oil business following his father’s death and successfully expanded it into the software industry during the country’s tech revolution.

Premji transformed a $2m hydrogenated cooking fat company into a global IT, BPO, and R&D services organisation with over $10bn in revenue and a presence in 66 countries.

Wipro now has an innovation centre in Silicon Valley, focusing on developing new technologies and collaborating with startups.

In 2019, Azim Premji’s son, Rishad, succeeded him as Wipro’s executive chairman, while Premji remains the founder chairman.

Other Wipro companies led by Premji generate nearly $2bn in sectors such as consumer goods, precision engineering, and healthcare systems.
