Telecoms provider Virgin Mobile has launched eSIM services for its users in the UAE, the company announced on Sunday.

Virgin Mobile – the second brand operating under Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (EITC) after du – said customers can get their eSIM activated at any Virgin Megastore across the UAE at no extra cost.

The eSIM is meant to eventually replace the physical, plastic SIM card that smartphones use with a virtual embedded equivalent that has been pre-built in some compatible devices.

While devices such as the Apple’s iPhone XS and XS Max offer the option, it has to be supported by the telecoms carrier and enabled by them.
