UAE rain: NCM forecasts unstable weather to peak on May 2

Authorities in Abu Dhabi issued an alert for unstable weather conditions expected to hit the emirate from May 2 to May 5

The UAE is bracing for challenging weather conditions starting today. Certain parts of the UAE were placed under a yellow alert by the National Centre of Meteorology as the country prepares for unstable weather conditions.

In its morning alert, the NCM notified of the East coast experiencing strong winds with speeds reaching up to 40 kilometre per hour with horizontal visibility impacted.

Additionally, a yellow alert was placed for parts of the Arabian Gulf.

Weather preparedness

The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) held meetings with the Joint Weather and Tropical Assessment Team to address the impending weather situation, reported state news agency WAM.

The NCM reported light to moderate rainfall reported in Mshayrif, Al Khatim, Al Shawamekh, and Al Bahyah areas along with moderate to heavy rainfall in the Al Dhafra region.

The weather for Wednesday is likely to see local convective rain clouds during the day, with a possibility of small hail in eastern regions extending to some internal and western regions.

This will build up to moderate to heavy rain expected accompanied by occasional lightning and thunder later in the night into Thursday, May 2. The report added that there could be some hail concentrated in western regions, on the coasts, and in some eastern areas.

Abu Dhabi

Authorities in Abu Dhabi issued an alert for unstable weather conditions expected to hit the emirate from May 2 to May 5. The notification issued by Abu Dhabi Media Office alerted residents to moderate to heavy rainfall along with windy conditions starting Thursday.

It cautioned the public to adhere to safety measures during adverse weather conditions.

UAE-wide rainfall

The East coast is expected to receive substantial rainfall with Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah and Ajman already receiving scattered rain throughout the week. The emirates of Ajman and Fujairah received light rain in the Masfout, Al Hayl and Wadi Mai, areas respectively.

The weather authority said cloud quantities will decrease closer to the end of the week with the possibility of continuing light to medium rain, potentially heavy in some southern and eastern regions.
