Maaz Sheikh has steered Starzplay – the subscription video on demand service – adroitly since he co-founded it in Dubai in 2014. Starzplay recorded about 40 per cent growth in its paid subscriber base in 2020, and expects the number of users to double over the next three to four years to around four million, according to a Bloomberg report in February this year. It secured $25m debt financing earlier this year to further strengthen its geographic and customer reach. Prior to establishing Starzplay, Sheikh was the chief sales and operations officer at OSN.
