Real Madrid beat Al Ain to win Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi

Al Ain became the second Arab team to win silver at the Club World Cup

European champions Real Madrid beat UAE team Al Ain 4-1 to win their third straight Club World Cup title on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.

Al Ain, which made a surprise entry into the finals by beating Copa Libertadores champions River Plate on Tuesday, became the second Arab team to win silver at the Club World Cup.

While Luka Modric’s goal in the 14th minute put Madrid ahead, Marcos Llorente also netted his first goal for the team with half an hour left. Sergio Ramos added a late goal while Al Ain’s Yahia Nader scored an own goal in stoppage time.

Al Ain defender Tsukasa Shiotani headed in the host team’s only goal.

The UAE’s leaders including Vice President and Prime Minister and Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum praised Al Ain’s performance.

“Congratulations to Real Madrid for winning the FIFA Club World Cup title. Proud of Al Ain FC’s performance and the excellent organisation of the event. The UAE has become an important venue for international sports events,” said Sheikh Hamdan.
