Ras Al Khaimah to attempt fireworks world record on NYE

The emirate intends to hold a 12-minute fireworks display at Al Marjan Island

The UAE emirate of Ras Al Khaimah plans to break a new world record for fireworks display this New Year’s Eve, it was announced on Monday.

The emirate intends to hold a 12-minute fireworks display – the bid for a new Guinness World Record display – and host family-oriented activities to celebrate the occasion.

Local developer Marjan will manage the show at its flagship development, Al Marjan Island, a statement said and three additional viewing areas will be arranged around the island.

The venues allocated to watch the fireworks are next to Al Hamra Village – Al Shohadah Street and Al Wasl Street between Al Marjan Island and Al Hamra Village with special parking areas.

The venues are open for free to the public.

On offer at the show will be food trucks, ice cream salons, lemonade corners, band performances, and children’s activities such as face painting and inflatable games. Stilt walkers, mime artists, and clowns will welcome guests with free balloons.

In 2018, Ras Al Khaimah also set the Guinness World record for the ‘largest aerial firework shell’.

Abdulla Al Abdouli, managing director and CEO of Marjan, said: “The event this year will position the emirate as the must-visit destination this season.”

The UAE emirate has been seeking to boost its tourism sector and posted a 11.2 per cent increase in international visitors during the first nine months of the year.

Ras Al Khaimah received 795,000 guests from January to September for a total of 2.53 million nights.

Authorities are aiming to welcome one million international visitors this year.
