UAE-based mall operator Majid Al Futtaim has completed its OMR5m ($13m) redevelopment of City Centre Qurum mall in Oman, it announced on Thursday.

The redevelopment work, which began in April 2016, includes the setting up of a 3,150 square metre Centrepoint store – the multi-brand retail concept of Landmark Group. The new store includes Babyshop, Splash, Lifestyle and Shoe Mart and will serve as the mall’s new anchor store.

The expansion also includes 177 additional car parking spaces, bringing the total number of parking spaces available at the mall to 1,055 spaces, a statement said.

“The redevelopment project is now complete and we were able to deliver it in a timely and cost-effective manner,” said Watfa Humaid Al Harthy, senior mall manager, City Centre Qurum.
“Centrepoint is a welcomed addition to City Centre Qurum’s comprehensive retail line-up.”

Since opening, Centrepoint has performed “exceptionally well” and has witnessed an “increase in both footfall and sales”, the statement added.

City Centre Qurum, which opened in 2008, underwent one round of expansion in 2014 by introducing a seven-screen VOX Cinemas complex and a new Magic Planet family entertainment.

With all the additions completed, the mall now has approximately 26,500 sqm of gross leasable area, offering 13 dining options, 91 retail destinations and entertainment options.

Majid Al Futtaim is expanding its operations across the region and earlier this week, announced a Dhs300m ($81.6m) City Centre project at Abu Dhabi’s Masdar City.

The new mall will include 60 outlets spread across 18,000 square metres of gross leasable area with a family entertainment centre, 5,760-square-metre Carrefour Hypermarket, City Centre Clinic and restaurants.
