Few can lay claim to the kind of success Mohammed Alshaya has enjoyed in retail over the years. Since becoming executive chairman in 1993, he has overseen the growth of the Kuwait-based giant, managing and operating nearly 90 brands such as H&M, Starbucks, The Body Shop and Philippe Starck. Operating more than 4,000 stores in seven sectors, and employing more than 53,000 people, Alshaya’s firm acquired a stake in $1bn e-commerce venture Noon.com in 2017, and added several brands in 2018 including Korean beauty brand Etude House and entertainment concept TekZone.
