In interviews in September he made no secret of ambitions for Saudi to become an international capital markets hub and has since pressed ahead with changes to stock exchange rules allowing more flexible trading and reducing the minimum value of assets under management needed for a foreign institution to qualify as an investor. If all goes well, Saudi Arabia will be added to the emerging market indexes of FTSE and MSCI later this year and host a successful listing of state oil giant Saudi Aramco.
