He is now overseeing the firm’s 2030 strategy to boost oil production, triple petrochemical output and boost efficiency on top of his other positions as minister of state, and chairman of clean energy firm Masdar and Abu Dhabi Ports. In recent interviews he has indicated the firm will be more open to partnerships and investment, as seen by the $2.2bn concession share swap announced with BP in December, and may look to China for the remaining 12 per cent stake in the firm’s main onshore concession.
