As oil prices continued to pinch, Badr Jafar, the CEO of Crescent Enterprises, began steering the company in a new direction. The conglomerate acquired stakes in two African e-commerce related companies – Mara Shopping and Mara Xpress – seeking a share of a market forecast to be worth $75bn by 2025. Jafar continued his long dedication towards boosting entrepreneurship last year as Crescent Enterprises partnered with Ashoka to co-found the Arab World Social Entrepreneurship Program (ASEP) in early 2016. As founder of the Pearl Initiative, Jafar remains a vocal commentator on accountability and transparency in business.
