Hyundai Motor Company will donate medical and personal protection equipment worth $2.4m to countries across the Middle East and Africa to help combat the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Hyundai has purchased over 603,000 items that will benefit the front-line medical workers and the public across 37 countries in the Middle East and Africa region.

It will distribute 445,500 face masks, 100,000 industrial masks, 25,000 hand sanitisers, 32,500 protective suits and 43 ambulances.

All the equipment will be distributed by the government and non-government organisations within the target countries.

“We have seen in the last few weeks the impact that Covid-19 has had across the world which has affected hundreds of thousands of people. The contributions of hand sanitisers, face masks, protective equipment and ambulances are another step forward of making a positive difference and we believe if we work together, we can overcome anything,” said Bang Sun Jeong, vice president, head of Hyundai Motor Company Middle East and Africa.

Other auto companies within the UAE have also taken steps to aid the Covid-19 relief efforts.

In April, Audi Volkswagen Middle East provided several cars to the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS) to support efforts to counter the pandemic in the emirate.

The fleet of vehicles included an Audi Q3, Q5 and Q8 as well as the Touareg, Teramont, Tiguan and Passat from Volkswagen – all of which are being used to transport critical equipment, medical supplies and meals to team workers and their families living in the UAE, said a statement from the auto manufacturer.

That same month, Al Ghandi Auto, the exclusive retailer for General Motors-owned Cadillac vehicles in the UAE, also donated 10 Escalades to the Dubai Police to help the emirate’s security force combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
