Heavy downpours hit Dubai and parts of UAE on Saturday, chance of rainfall on Sunday

Heavy rainfall hit Dubai and other parts of the UAE on Saturday, January 7, as unstable weather conditions were reported across the UAE.

The UAE authorities issued a weather alert as heavy rain, accompanied by thunder, pounded parts of the country.

Authorities also alerted people to be cautious while driving during the rain, due to poor visibility caused by rain and winds that raise dust and dirt, warned against approaching catchment areas and valleys.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) also issued a yellow alert for large parts of the UAE.

An amber alert (which signifies hazardous weather) was announced for some parts of the UAE until 4pm on Saturday.

The lowest temperatures recorded in the country on Saturday: 7.1°C in Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah at 3:45am, 9.8°C in Jebel Mabrah, 13.7°C in Jebel Hafeet and 13.8°C in Jabal, according to the NCM.

The forecast for Sunday is that it would be partly cloudy in general and cloudy at times with a chance of light to moderate rainfall during the daytime over some coastal, northern and eastern areas.

According to NCM, the lowest temperature recorded in the country on Sunday morning was 6.4 °C in Jais Mountain (Ras Al Khaimah) at 4:45am UAE local time.

The forecast for Monday morning: mist over some coastal and internal areas. Light to moderate northwesterly winds, reaching 40 km/hr are likely.
