Fire erupts in Makkah hotel

All the guests were immediately evacuated with no casualties or injuries reported

Gulf Business

Saudi officials have confirmed that they managed to put out a fire that erupted at a hotel in the Saudi city of Makkah on Sunday night.

All the guests were immediately evacuated with no casualties or injuries reported, the official Saudi Press Agency reported.

Fire extinguishing squads rushed to the hotel – located at Ibrahim Al-Khalil street – soon after the blaze erupted.

An official spokesman from the Civil Defence of Makkah region said that the fire gutted a pile of beds at an annex of the hotel, which caused intensive smoke.

No further details were given.

The latest incident comes after another hotel in Makkah witnessed a fire accident in August last year, just before the start of the hajj pilgrimage.

The blaze broke out in a 15-storey hotel located in the Aziziyah neighbourhood. All the 600 Turkish and Yemeni pilgirms who were at the hotel were evacuated.

Officials said the fire broke out in an air conditioning unit at the hotel.
