Fire breaks out at construction site in Dubai’s Jumeirah district

No injuries were reported in the blaze at the under-construction shopping centre.

Dubai Civil Defence battled a blaze at an under-construction shopping mall in Jumeirah on Sunday evening.

Smoke could be seen billowing over Jumeirah Beach Road after the fire was reported at 5.25pm.

According to Gulf News, the fire occurred at The Agora mall development, a three-storey shopping centre with two basement levels.

Initial investigations found the fire started in the basement of the construction site.

Firefighting teams from three stations were sent to contain the fire and ensure it did not spread to neighbouring buildings, Dubai Media Office said.

Jumeirah Street was partially cordoned off and Urouba Street was closed while the blaze was brought under control.

Dubai Media Office said firefighting teams “moved swiftly and skillfully to contain the fire”, and no injuries were reported.
