Motorsport and legacy-building: Meet AKCEL Group founder Amit Kaushal
AKCEL Group founder and chairman Amit Kaushal.

Amit Kaushal began his career in Dubai in the late 1990s before expanding into the UK and beyond.

Today, as chairman, he heads up the global AKCEL Group, a diversified business spanning IT, real estate, investments, and now motorsport.

In this episode of the Gulf Business podcast, Kaushal tells us about his company’s push into the world of formula racing with AKCEL GP, the group’s branded real estate venture with BNW Developments, and his ambition to build a legacy that leads all the way to Formula One.

Before we get into the motorsport side of things, tell us more about AKCEL Group. It’s quite a diversified business: can you paint a picture for our audience?

Of course. Firstly, thank you for having me. AKCEL Group is built around the concept of transforming aspiration into legacy. That idea is embedded in the name itself:

“A” stands for Aspiration, “K” for Knowledge, “C” for Clarity and Consistency, “E” for Excellence, and “L” for Legacy.

So it’s not just a name — it’s a journey.

In terms of the business, we’re a global conglomerate. Our roots are in IT — specifically consulting and training — and we operate in India, the UK, the US, Ireland, and Dubai. We also own Jetking, which has over 100 IT training centres in India.

We’ve recently entered real estate in the UAE through a branded residence partnership with BNW. Our first flagship project will launch on Dubai Islands, followed by an expansion into Ras Al Khaimah. That’s a huge step for us.

Then, there’s motorsport — which is giving global visibility to our brand. We’re proud to be the first Indian-origin group to own a racing team in this space. It’s a major milestone, especially for the wider South Asian community.

And finally, we have an investment arm that focuses on alternative assets — everything from angel investing to venture capital. So AKCEL Group is built on four key pillars: IT, real estate, motorsport, and investments.

I personally left India around 25 years ago. I started my journey in Dubai back in 1998, then moved to the UK in 2000. And now, life is bringing me full circle — back to Dubai, which has always had a special place in my heart.

Can you tell us more about AKCEL GP and why did you decide to launch it now?

AKCEL GP is our motorsport arm, and we’ve just completed our first season here in the Middle East, competing in Formula 4 and the Formula Regional Middle East Championship. We even made it to a few podiums.

The idea started in Dubai when I met our team principal, Rohit Kaul, a former Formula driver. We shared a common vision, and we realised there’s very little South Asian representation in global motorsport. That inspired us. We wanted to create a platform to nurture young talent and eventually compete in Formula One.

We pulled everything together in just nine months and launched at the Armani Hotel, Burj Khalifa in January 2025. Our drivers come from diverse backgrounds — India, the UK, Romania — and we’re proud to support the Al Qubaisi family too. Amna and Hamda Al Qubaisi are now our brand ambassadors and sit on our advisory board. They’re pioneers in UAE motorsport and have been a huge support.

You’ve decided to make the UAE your global base — tell us why.

Dubai is where I began my journey, and strategically it makes perfect sense. It’s now at the centre of global conversations, whether it’s sports, tech, AI, crypto, real estate or investment. Everything is converging here.

Logistically, it’s also ideal for managing operations across both the Indian subcontinent and Europe. For us, it’s not just home: it’s a launchpad.

The business of motorsports is quite complex — it’s not just what we see on track. What have you learned so far?

A lot! We started with a technical partner, but now we’re building our own in-house technical team for our European F4 and FRACA campaigns. That gives us better control, allows us to build in-house performance models, and elevate our drivers.

We’re also setting up a second base in Milan, Italy to manage the April to October European racing season. After that, we’ll compete in Macau and return to the UAE for the 2026 season.

Every person on the team — from our technical director Matthew Norman, to logistics and operations — plays a critical role. It’s a true team sport behind the scenes.

Do you attend every race yourself?

I try to attend as many as possible, but our team principal Rohit Kaul leads the operations on the ground. My role is more strategic: managing partnerships, sponsor relations, and ensuring smooth execution throughout the season.

Sponsors are crucial. Who are some of your key partners?

We’re fortunate to have a great mix. BNW Developments is one of our lead partners. Gulf Business is on our car too — which we’re very proud of. We also have Century Financial, and LifeCoin as sponsors. Each one plays an important role in the ecosystem we’re building.

You’re competing in Formula 4 and Formula Regional — can you explain the difference?

F4 is the first major step after go-karting — the entry point into the Formula ladder. From F4, drivers move to FR (Formula Regional), which is more powerful and covers specific regions — we just raced across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, and Jeddah.

After FR, drivers can progress to F3, F2 and ultimately F1 — the dream. The difference lies in engine power, car weight and complexity. But every step is crucial.

You mentioned AKCEL Academy: what is its role in terms of your overarching approach to motorsport?

The Academy supports the entire talent pipeline. We identify young drivers early. One of our drivers started go-karting at four and is now eight, and is already a champion from Singapore.

We also have a focus on inclusivity. For example, we’ve reserved one seat for a female driver, and we’re proud to support Hamda and Amna Al Qubaisi. We’re also planning an announcement in Barcelona to enter the endurance-based Le Mans series with them.

And we’re supporting Atika, the first Indian female driver to enter an F1 Academy. She’s an inspiration.

So what’s next for AKCEL GP in the next five to ten years?

The short-term focus is to strengthen our presence in F4, F3, and F2. Simultaneously, we’re scaling our Academy and merging racing with IT and engineering.

The long-term aspiration is to reach Formula One and to see our driver on the F1 podium one day. That’s the vision, and we’re fully committed to it.

Talean Services : Latest update on Cyprus Benefits

Tatiana Achilleos – Lawyer and Founder of Talean Group of Companies

Are you thinking to expand your business within European Union area? Then I suggest Cyprus as one of the most attractive places that is close to Middle East.

Its favourable tax legislation, strategic location, and developed infrastructure make the island an ideal place for international companies.

Despite the fact that corporate tax of 12.5 per cent in Cyprus still the lowest corporate tax in EU, Cyprus has implemented IP Box Regime for gaming and IT companies with possibility to reduce taxation up to 2.5 per cent

Also Cyprus has a well-developed real estate market, offering a range of residential properties from apartments to luxury villas where we assist to complete such transaction on turnkey basis.

Foreign nationals can purchase property in Cyprus with no restrictions and participate a permanent residency program with a minimum investment of €300,000 to real estate. After 5 years of living in Cyprus, a permanent resident can also apply for citizenship.

My name is Tatiana Achilleos and I established Talean Group of companies to help businessmen to find suitable business solutions for relocation, taxation, daily operation and investments. I also see many start-ups who choose Cyprus to become its first hub and we help them to make their dream ideas to become true.

Talean Services Ltd has been established as one of Cyprus’s premier full corporate service providers, widely recognized for outstanding success and quality performance in every area of legal, corporate, contract, TM, real estate and administrative services.

Our basic principle is to exceed our clients’ expectations and deliver excellent, practical and cost-effective services.

I strongly recommend clients from IT sector to consider Cyprus for their hub or at least main part of the group of companies as IT development gives an opportunity to optimize taxes and make the whole group operating more efficiently.

Having over 20 years’ experience in legal sector, I believe that here anyone may find everything that meets his business expectations.

Well-developed corporate sector and attractive tax regime helps business to develop and expand in comfortability within European Union.

Our expert team can provide explicit, efficient and practical advice and support to any issue that you may come across.

BBBI’s Success Story: Investing in Cyprus Made Easy

Nayef Kassatly – Managing Director of BBBI

For Nayef Kassatly, Managing Director of Boutique Beverages Bottling Factory International LTD (BBBI), Cyprus has proven to be a smooth, reliable, and welcoming destination for investment. Part of the renowned Kassatly Group—an established family-owned beverage company operating since 1919—the decision to expand operations to Europe was strategic.

After evaluating several Mediterranean countries, Cyprus emerged as the clear choice.

“In terms of ease of doing business, government support, and investor facilitation, Cyprus exceeded our expectations,” Kassatly explains. “We were guided at every step, from permits to implementation, and the experience was incredibly positive.”

BBBI’s facility, located just 10 kilometers from Limassol Port, is a major production and export hub for the company’s flagship non-alcoholic beverage line, FREEZ MIX, already popular across the GCC. The company secured all factory licenses in just six months—a remarkable achievement considering the complexity involved.

With support from Invest Cyprus and the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry’s Facilitation Unit, bureaucracy was minimal and highly coordinated.

Once licensed, the construction phase was executed at record speed.

“We completed 27,000 square meters of development and launched production within 18 months from the first excavation,” Kassatly notes. “We partnered with one of Cyprus’s top construction firms and found the market to be full of qualified, professional contractors.”

Beyond business, Kassatly highlights the island’s attractive lifestyle and strategic location. “Cyprus is safe, English-speaking, and family-friendly—with excellent schools and a welcoming community,” he says.

“For us, being just 30 minutes from Beirut was an added advantage. Our teams can commute easily, and we feel at home here.”

While the investment journey was overwhelmingly positive, Kassatly notes a few areas for improvement.

High energy costs and port charges remain challenges, though he points out that discussions with relevant ministries are ongoing and that potential solutions are in motion.

Labor shortages, a common issue across Europe, have been mitigated by the responsiveness of Cyprus’s labor authorities, who have enabled skilled staffing from third countries where necessary.

Despite these minor hurdles, Kassatly remains strongly optimistic. “I would absolutely recommend Cyprus to any investor looking to enter the European market,” he affirms.

“The support we received, the efficiency of procedures, and the quality of partnerships made this project a true success.”

As BBBI continues to scale up operations from its Cyprus base, it stands as a clear example of how international businesses can thrive on the island—backed by a pro-business environment, skilled workforce, and strategic connectivity to Europe and the Middle East.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, has launched the initial phase of increased Saudisation across fourkey healthcare professions within the private sector.

The implementation came into effect on April 17, as reported by Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The decision aligns with the kingdom’s wider strategy to boost local employment and enhance workforce participation in the health sector, ensuring that employment regulations correspond to officially recognised professional definitions and titles.

Saudisation targets announced for healthcare roles

This first phase mandates specific Saudisation rates for jobs in the following healthcare areas:

  1. Radiology: 65 per cent
  2. Clinical nutrition: 80 per cent
  3. Physiotherapy: 80 per cent
  4. Medical laboratory: 70 per cent

To support national talent attraction and retention, the minimum monthly salary has been set at SAR 7,000 for specialists and SAR 5,000 for technicians working in these roles.

Initial phase coverage and scope

The current implementation applies to all private sector establishments, regardless of size, operating in the major cities of Riyadh, Makkah, Madinah, Jeddah, Dammam, and Al-Khobar.

In addition, large and mega-sized companies located in other regions of the kingdom are also included in this initial rollout.

The second phase of the initiative is scheduled to commence on October 17, and will cover remaining establishments across the country, further expanding the Saudisation programme’s reach.

Sales executive turned entrepreneur Mansi Panchal has boldly made her way down the founder’s world.

Just in her twenties, Panchal has proved that regardless of your age, if you are determined enough, you can achieve your dreams, which is clearly visible with her company, FounderX.

The company helps potential entrepreneurs find their ‘X-factor to venture’, by helping them set up their businesses in the UAE.

Kicking it off as a business set-up advisor in Dubai, Panchal sharply pivoted to sales, where she found her passion: connecting with people. And no, she’s not your ordinary salesperson; she emphasises the art of listening; “God gave us two ears and one mouth for a reason,” she says.

Her USP? Getting in-depth with her clients, finding out what makes her clients tick, and then using that as the ideal insight to seal the deal.

Now, she’s on a mission to fill the enormous gap that exists in GCC’s business set-up industry and in sales training to mentor the up-and-rising generation of sales reps.

Let’s dive into the young entrepreneur’s journey that made her who she is today:

Why sales? What is it about the profession that intrigues you?

Why not? Let’s be real here – this is the sole profession where you get to control a huge chunk of your income and live the life you want.

To me, sales isn’t just about persuading people to buy what you sell, but rather, it’s about the adrenaline and the experience of meeting new people.

Every client is different, and every deal has a thrill of its own. What intrigues me most is getting to know the ‘why,’ and the psychological drive behind each transaction.

How did you manage to stand out in a male-dominated field?

Simply put, it’s more about the mindset than about the gender. I walk into every boardroom knowing my worth, regardless of who is in there; I could be in a room full of men being the only woman with the right sales pitch.

You have to develop an “I will make it happen” mindset. You can’t sit around and wait for an invite to the table, but you have to build your own.

What made you realise you need to offer mentorship to up-and-rising salespeople today?

I started off in the business set-up industry and went ahead with working in sales, I had no mentor to guide me through the thick and thin of sealing deals, but soon, having worked with multiple corporations, both big and small, what made me realise that majority of people didn’t even know what they were selling, and the reason behind that was the lack of sufficient training.

That’s when I mastered the art of sales — through my own experiences (the hard way), and now I want to change that for others.

Now, I even mentor up-and-coming sales pros, guiding them through the crooks of sales strategies and closing deals and teaching them what I wasn’t taught myself; I’ve been doing so by offering free tips and tricks on my social media platforms.

What was your vision behind FounderX?

Having dealt in the business set-up industry for more than six years and engaged with over 4,500 entrepreneurs a year, I realised the existing market gap: buyers not getting in touch with the right sellers, and I saw one too many startups fail.

Ninety per cent of young startups fail solely because founders and teams don’t “sell themselves or their offerings” effectively. This, I think, is not stressed enough.

At FounderX, I focus on understanding the core vision behind an entrepreneur’s business and use that insight to help them identify their “X-factor” — the unique element that drives success.

I aim to create a team that embodies this passion and delivers top-tier service to entrepreneurs, ultimately building a community of skilled sales professionals.

I envision training my team with the passion that gives our clients the best first-hand experience in UAE’s business market – with that, creating a community of killer sales reps.

What’s your driving force as a young entrepreneur?

I really do think everyone has their own vision behind their startups, from following a dream to just simply making more money.

But my vision doesn’t only revolve around monetisation, and this may sound silly, but I really look more for the adventure of doing something new all the time because it really gives me a sense of fulfillment when I set a whole blueprint of an idea and implement it successfully.

I don’t ever believe in stopping at one milestone, but rather always have a new project to work on in my mind while succeeding in my current one.

Would you say you’re an impulsive decision-maker?

I personally don’t mind being impulsive with my decisions – I mean, it’s easy to weigh the pros and cons of your decision if you put your mind to it, and if the pros or cons outweigh one another, that might be a sign on its own.

I do emphasise being objective with my decisions because we obviously can’t make decisions blindly, but I love keeping it spontaneous rather than confining myself to one shell.

What are your views on the business set-up industry in the UAE?

Since I’ve been in the business set-up industry for over six years, I have really seen all the ins and outs of the industry, which widely helped me understand where to and not to put my foot in.

Our role is more than just being sales reps – we play a vital role as consultants, bringing entrepreneurs closer to their business dreams, reflecting on our clarity and transparency, and ultimately building trustworthy relationships.

With the business set-up industry being one of UAE’s fastest growing industries, it’s our responsibility to cater to expat entrepreneurs and help them find success in the country’s competitive market, along with showing the world why they should start their busines in the UAE.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inaugurated a new bridge connecting Jumeirah Street to Al Mina Street in the direction of the Infinity Bridge, a key infrastructure development under Phase 4 of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project.

The newly opened structure spans 985 metres, features two lanes, and is designed to handle up to 3,200 vehicles per hour, providing smoother traffic flow and improving connectivity in one of the city’s busiest corridors.

Major boost to Dubai’s road network

The bridge is part of a wider effort to enhance mobility and reduce congestion along the Al Shindagha Corridor, a vital artery that stretches 4.8 kilometres from the intersection of Sheikh Rashid Road and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street to the Falcon Intersection on Al Mina Street.

In line with Dubai’s leadership directives, the RTA is focused on addressing the emirate’s growing urban and population needs through strategic infrastructure upgrades.

The launch of this bridge is expected to have an immediate positive impact, cutting travel time by 67 per cent — from 12 minutes to just four minutes — for vehicles travelling from Jumeirah Street towards Infinity Bridge via Al Mina Street.

Additional infrastructure underway

Phase 4 of the Al Shindagha Corridor Project includes five more bridges with a combined length of 3.1 kilometres, designed to accommodate a total capacity of 19,400 vehicles per hour.

The overall phase also involves 4.8 kilometres of roadworks and surface intersection improvements on key routes including Jumeirah Street, Al Mina Street, and Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Street.

In addition to vehicular infrastructure, the project includes two pedestrian bridges — one on Sheikh Rashid Road and another on Al Mina Street — aimed at enhancing safety and accessibility for non-motorised users.

Major completion expected

A further highlight of the Al Shindagha Corridor expansion is the upcoming completion of a 780-metre, three-lane bridge by Q2 2025.

This bridge will link Infinity Bridge to Al Wasl Street via Al Mina Street, with the capacity to support up to 4,800 vehicles per hour, significantly strengthening east-west traffic movement within central Dubai.

The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project is among the largest infrastructure initiatives in the region. Upon full completion, the corridor is expected to transform traffic dynamics across the emirate, supporting continued urban growth and economic development.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to begin the experimental operation of 50 autonomous vehicles in the coming months, paving the way for the official public launch of the service in 2026.

According to a WAM report, the RTA has partnered with Baidu’s autonomous ride-hailing service, Apollo Go—a global leader in autonomous transport solutions—to roll out driverless taxis on a large scale across the emirate.

The MoU was signed during a ceremony attended by Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, and Halton Niu, General Manager of Overseas Business at Baidu’s Intelligent Driving Group (IDG).

On behalf of the RTA, the MoU was signed by Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of Public Transport Agency, while Liang Zhang, General Manager of Overseas Business, MENA, Baidu Intelligent Driving Group, signed on behalf of Baidu. Several representatives from both parties were also present.

Experimental operation

The trial phase will begin with 50 autonomous vehicles in the coming months, setting the stage for the public launch in 2026.

Under the MoU, Apollo Go will deploy the sixth—and latest—generation of its RT6 autonomous taxis, specifically designed for driverless mobility services.

These vehicles feature 40 sensors and detectors to ensure the highest standards of automation and safety. The RT6 model has already achieved significant success and received widespread acclaim from users in China.

The data collection and testing phase will start with 50 vehicles and gradually expand to 1,000 autonomous taxis over the next three years, based on established efficiency and service quality standards.

Apollo Go’s first international expansion

This initiative marks Apollo Go’s first international venture outside mainland China and Hong Kong in testing and operating autonomous vehicles.

To date, Apollo Go has logged over 150 million kilometres of safe driving, supporting large-scale driverless taxi services across multiple cities in China. The company has completed more than 10 million autonomous trips, making it the world’s largest operator of autonomous vehicle fleets.

Al Tayer expressed his satisfaction with the agreement, highlighting Apollo Go as a pioneer of China’s first autonomous taxi service and a leader in integrating artificial intelligence, big data, and automation to shape the smart cities of the future.

“This MoU aligns with the directives of our leadership to strengthen partnerships with global entities and leading companies, positioning the emirate at the forefront of advanced and sustainable transport solutions. It aims to leverage cutting-edge technologies and promote innovative mobility solutions,” said Al Tayer.

He added that the agreement marks a pivotal step in realizing Dubai’s Smart Self-Driving Transport Strategy, which aims to make 25 percent of all trips in Dubai autonomous by 2030. This builds on the RTA’s ongoing efforts in autonomous vehicle trials, which began in 2016.

RTA’s role in advancing autonomous mobility

Self-driving transport is becoming a global reality, with leading companies accelerating the development of enabling technologies and software.

Governments and relevant authorities are simultaneously working on licensing frameworks, infrastructure, and regulatory guidelines for autonomous vehicle operations.

RTA is committed to reinforcing Dubai’s global leadership in autonomous mobility through the testing of various autonomous vehicles, including air taxis and marine transport, in line with its Smart Self-Driving Transport Strategy.

“The collaboration with RTA not only reflects Dubai’s proactive embrace of innovative technology, but also supports the UAE’s ambition to lead in autonomous driving,” said Halton Niu. “Apollo Go is committed to delivering safe, sustainable, and efficient smart mobility services globally.”

Liang Zhang, General Manager of Overseas Business, MENA, at Baidu IDG, added, “Our partnership with RTA marks Apollo Go’s most significant international expansion to date. This collaboration demonstrates Dubai’s strong commitment to next-generation mobility innovation.”

Ahmed Bahrozyan emphasised the societal benefits of self-driving transport, including greater accessibility for children, the elderly, and those unable to drive, while improving road safety and saving time.

“The MoU with Apollo Go is crucial for strengthening cooperation and knowledge-sharing to develop autonomous driving technologies in Dubai,” he said. “This will be achieved through field trials and a roadmap for deploying autonomous taxis.”
