Eid Al Fitr 2024, which will mark the end of the month of fasting for scores of Muslims around the world, is likely to fall on April 10. The date was suggested by Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomy Society.

The astronomer said the date was based on Islamic astronomical calculations.

He explained that the upcoming solar eclipse, on April 8, would impact the sighting of the new moon which would mark the end of Ramadan. He added that top scholars and experts in the country, studied the astronomical calendar and concluded that the first day of the month of Shawwal, which follows Ramadan, will be April 10.

With Eid al Fitr now forecast for April 10, the month of Ramadan will be a 30-day one, as the first day was marked on March 11.

When does Ramadan end in 2024?

Eid al-Fitr, the celebration, officially marks the end of Ramadan. The exact timing is based on the sighting of the moon.

This year, Ramadan is expected to end on the evening of Tuesday, April 9, depending on the sighting of the moon.

When to stop fasting Ramadan 2024?

The sighting of the moon determines the end of the month-long fasting period of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid.

The last day of fasting this Ramadan 2024 will be Tuesday, April 9, depending on the sighting of the moon a day prior.

When is Eid ul Fitr 2024?

In 2024, Eid al Fitr is likely to take place on April 10, depending on the sighting of the moon.

As with each day in the Islamic calendar, the next day begins after Maghrib prayer (just after sunset) of the same day, explains Islamic Relief. Therefore, Eid technically begins after the moon has been sighted (which is likely to be on April 9), but Eid prayers and celebrations, will take place the following day.

What are the likely holiday dates?

Those working and living in the UAE, will be off from Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3 on the Islamic Calendar (Hijri). Ramadan 29 corresponds to Monday, April 8 on the Gregorian calendar, which means that this is the first day of the Eid public holiday, according to the annual leave calendar released by the UAE government. The Eid leave would then be a six day one, with the previous Saturday-Sunday weekend added to the break, with celebrations ending on Thursday, April 4.

If it’s a 30-day Ramadan, the Eid break will run from Monday, April 8 (Ramadan 29) to Friday, April 12 (Shawwal 3). This means that those who have a Saturday and Sunday weekend will have a nine-day break with work resuming on Monday, April 15.
