Eid Al Fitr 2024: 5.9 million people use public transport from April 10-12

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that public transport means, taxis and shared mobility vehicles transported about 5.9 million passengers during the holiday of Eid Al Fitr 1445H (April 10 to 12).

RTA also offered free public parking, excluding multi-level parking terminals, over the Eid al Fitr holidays.

Tariffs resumed on April 13.

In numbers: Commuters during Eid

• Dubai Metro’s Red and Green Lines served 2.32 million riders
• Dubai Tram lifted 115 thousand riders
• Public buses were used by 1.2 million passengers
• Marine transport means ferried 416 thousand riders
• Taxis transported 1.6 million passengers
• Shared mobility vehicles served 308,000 passengers

RTA metro upgrade on April 15

In other news, starting from April 15, passengers will no longer need to switch trains at Jabal Ali Station.

Hassan Al Mutawa, director of Rail Operation at RTA emphasised that these enhancements were determined based on studies indicating a consistent rise in the ridership of Metro’s Red Line.

He said: “Passengers would no longer need to interchange at Jabal Ali metro station. The commuters travelling from Ibn Battuta station to UAE Exchange can now benefit from a direct journey while those heading to Gardens – EXPO 2020 can conveniently board a train directly to their destination.”
