Dubai developer Nakheel has awarded a Dhs447m ($121.6m) contract for the main access bridge to its upcoming Deira Islands master development.
Wade Adams Contracting LLC is constructing the 12-lane bridge, which spans 600m and will connect the islands to the mainland, under the supervision of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority.
It will start at Al Khaleej road on the mainland and lead to Deira Islands A, the home of the project’s night market, mall and two beach resorts managed by RIU and Centara.
Work began in May and is scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2020.
Nakheel has so far invested more than Dhs8.5bn ($2.31bn) in Deira Islands through construction and infrastructure contracts.
This includes a $1.4bn contract for the Deira Islands Mall, which will be Dubai’s largest shopping centre when finished in 2021.
The wider development will add 40km to Dubai’s coastline, house 250,000 residents and is expected to create 80,000 jobs.c
