Dubai developer Damac Properties has awarded a contract worth approximately Dhs600m for the construction of one of the towers at its Aykon City development on Sheikh Zayed Road.

The contract has been awarded to China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), a statement said.

It covers main works for the construction for the tower – which consists of serviced apartments. The tower includes two basement, ground floor and ten podium levels, along with a lifestyle and entertainment level, 53 residential floors and a rooftop.

As per the agreement, the main works are expected to commence on March 1, 2018.

The enabling work for the tower is already complete and it is estimated that its main construction will use more than 11,000 tonnes of steel and 94,682 metric cubes of concrete, a statement said.

Launched in 2016 as a Dhs7.4bn six-tower project, Aykon City is located close to the Dubai Canal development.

The four million square feet luxury development is located on the eastern and western sides of Sheikh Zayed road at the Safa Park intersection.

It will include an 80-storey all-suites Aykon Hotel and Residences tower, a 63-storey Damac Maison Serviced Hotel Residences, a 60-storey apartment tower and a 65-storey office tower.

It will also have two 30-floor ultra-luxury residential towers with car lifts to each unit and direct views over Dubai Canal and Safa Park.

The project will also feature the Aykon Dare, an adrenaline experience on the 80th floor of the hotel where guests get to walk outside the tower’s roof.

Aykcon City will also comprise a plaza with swimming pools, spa, beach club, cafés, restaurants, yoga and tai-chi areas and a private members club.

At the time of launch, Damac said the completion of the project was slated for 2021.
