The project, focusing on the surface expansion of Exit 55 leading to Rabat Street, is a significant step towards addressing the emirate’s increasing traffic demands. Spanning 600 metres, the project involved extending the traffic overlap distance and adding an additional lane, increasing the total number of lanes to three. The upgrade directly contributes to boosting traffic safety and efficiency. Benefits of widening Exit 55 By expanding Exit 55, the RTA has increased the exit’s capacity from 3,000 vehicles per hour to 4,500 vehicles per hour, a 50 per cent increase. Moreover, the travel time from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Rabat Street towards Business Bay Crossing has been dramatically reduced from 10 minutes to just four minutes, marking a 60 per cent decrease. These improvements are part of a broader initiative by the RTA to enhance 45 locations across Dubai in 2024. The RTA employs a rigorous methodology to identify roads for improvement, analysing traffic studies, data from control centres, public suggestions, and field observations by RTA teams. This comprehensive approach ensures that the most critical areas are addressed promptly and effectively.
