Dubai retailers, Souq.com prepare for sales weekend

The annual event is among the biggest draws on the emirate’s shopping calendar

Retailers and e-commerce sites in Dubai are gearing up for an annual sales weekend, coinciding with Black Friday in other parts of the world.

Dubai’s annual ‘Super Sale’ event, offering discounts of up to 90 per cent, will take place from November 22 to 24.

Organiser Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE) said the event would offer major discounts on brands from fashion to beauty and homeware, with 1,500 retailers set to participate.

“The 3 Day Super Sale is an integral event in Dubai’s annual Retail Calendar which has the key objective of boosting the emirate’s retail sector and positioning Dubai as a leading retail hub of the world,” said DFRE CEO Ahmed Al Khaja.

“Together with our retail partners, we are pleased to announce the dates for our upcoming edition which will offer incredible savings to people across the city.”

Amazon-owned e-commerce site Souq.com also said it would be holding its annual White Friday sale from November 20 to 24.

More than 14,000 sellers and brands on the site will offer discounts of up yo 70 per cent across all categories.

The company said more than two million deals would be available to customers in the UAE, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

“Since we launched White Friday on SOUQ.com in 2014, customers have told us how much they like this deals event, so we are happy to be back this year with more deals and more choice than ever,” said Souq.com CEO and co-founder Ronaldo Mouchawar.

“We are also glad that hundreds of small and medium sized businesses are joining White Friday this year, after the positive sales uplift they saw in previous years.”

Discounts will include 60 per cent off mobile phones, 40 per cent off TVs, 60 per cent off appliances and 70 per cent off cameras, groceries, toys and fashion, according to the announcement.

The super sale is part of an annual calendar of retail events designed to boost the emirate’s shopping credentials.

The last event, the Concept Big Brands Sale in Dubai World Trade Centre, took place from September 4-8
