Dubai Police arrest actress for flouting Covid-19 precautions at parties

Dubai Police have arrested an Arab actress (MH) for flouting Covid-19 precautionary measures at two birthday parties that she organised in the emirate.

The woman posted videos from the parties, held at two different restaurants, on Snapchat, police authorities confirmed.

The videos showed that there was no “commitment to physical distancing” and that guests were not wearing masks, in clear violation of the precautionary measures against the coronavirus, said Admiral Jamal Salem Al-Jallaf, director of the General Department of Investigations at Dubai Police.

As per the decision of the the UAE attorney general, a fine of Dhs10,000 will be applied on those who organise private or public gatherings, meetings, parties, or gatherings, he said.

According to the updated list of penalties issued by the UAE, a fine of Dhs3,000 will be slapped on those not adhering to social distancing and those not wearing face masks at public places.

Al-Jallaf also confirmed that in coordination with the Dubai Economic Department, the Dubai Municipality and Dubai Tourism, the two restaurants will be penalised for allowing the parties to be held without adhering to the Covid-19 precautionary measures.

He also called on the public to always ensure the implementation of precautionary measures and maintain physical distancing and avoid organising parties and events that will contribute to spreading the virus.

Dubai has been taking strict action against establishments found violating coronavirus precautionary measures after it has stepped up monitoring to curb the spread of the virus.

A Dubai café was forced to shut shop after the singer was found not wearing a mask and customers seen not adhere to physical distancing, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

Furthermore, penalties were imposed on seven businesses and warnings issued to five others for non-compliance.
