Dubai has once again raised the bar for adventure enthusiasts with the completion of the UAE’s longest mountain trails.

Spanning 53 kilometres for cycling and 33 kilometres for walking and hiking, the Hatta Mountain Trails offer a diverse range of experiences for outdoor lovers of all levels.

Dubai Municipality recently announced that it has completed its development, enhancing Hatta’s profile as a world-class outdoor destination.

Dawoud Al Hajri, director general of Dubai Municipality, said: “The Hatta Mountain Trails project has been developed to enhance the quality of living in Dubai and position it as the most active and healthy city in the world. Our ambition is to implement initiatives that serve the Hatta area, establishing it as a leading tourist destination for residents and tourists.

“Designed to host international events and competitions, the Hatta Mountain Trails meet the highest health and safety standards. We have also enhanced public facilities and services to boost tourism in Hatta, supporting the Municipality’s ongoing efforts to make Dubai a more attractive city that provides the best quality of life for residents and visitors alike.”

Hatta Mountain Trails: What to expect

The Hatta Mountain Trails, featuring 21 cycling routes and 17 walking trails, wind through a variety of terrains, from rocky paths to rugged peaks, offering stunning panoramic views of the landscape.

The trails, designed to cater to outdoor enthusiasts of all levels, are divided into four colour-coded levels of difficulty:

  • Green: Ideal for beginners, with four cycling and four walking tracks.
  • Blue: For intermediate adventurers, offering six cycling and three walking tracks.
  • Red: Challenging routes for seasoned enthusiasts, with eight cycling and six walking paths.
  • Black: The most difficult, featuring three cycling and four walking trails for the most experienced and daring explorers.

Designed to cater to both residents and international visitors, the trails offer a host of amenities including car parking, toilets, bike rental and repair services, picnic areas, and rest stops.

The Hatta Mountain Bike Trails are also primed to host a vibrant community of cycling enthusiasts, with plans for events, races, and competitions throughout the year.

Comprehensive development

The project’s development was a remarkable feat, completed in just 10 months. Dubai Municipality expanded and maintained existing trails, stabilised soil, and replaced damaged bridges.

The second phase saw the construction of rest stops, service facilities, and the installation of clear signage to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors.

Dubai Municipality installed 176 signposts and 650 directional signs to help cyclists enjoy a safe and distinctive experience on the Hatta Mountain Trails.
