Move over deepfakes, the ‘mirror’ is here. As part of its agenda to push the boundaries of conversations surrounding artificial intelligence, DeepFest 2024 is gearing up to unveil its latest innovation – the ‘mirror’ interview.

A first-of-its-kind AI technology reveal, a human and their AI avatar will take part in a real-time conversation on Day 4 at DeepFest.

This social experiment will reveal a digital replica of a human being that not only mimics their appearance and voice (akin to a deepfake) but also learns to interpret their speech and engages in conversation.

Kwebblekop at Deepfest 2024

The live demonstration of The ‘mirror’ interview will feature Jordi van den Bussche, popularly known as Kwebblekop, a renowned YouTuber, gaming streamer, and podcast host. Jordi’s participation adds an extra layer of excitement to the event, given his previous experience with AI technology.

Notably, Jordi once introduced an AI version of himself on his channel, eliciting mixed reactions from his fans but ultimately expanding his audience significantly. DeepFest 2024 is set to witness history in the making as Jordi meets his match – quite literally – in the form of his AI doppelgänger.

With this experiment, DeepFest will not only showcase the capabilities of AI technology but also spark conversations about its implications for society.

AI solutions for the future

The software has been developed in collaboration with NeuralSpace, a leading Natural Language Understanding (NLU) solutions company. NLU refers to the ability of a computer or machine to comprehend and interpret human language in a way that is similar to how humans understand it.

NLU is a critical component of applications such as chatbots, virtual assistants, sentiment analysis dashboards and (semantic) search engines, as it enables these systems to understand user queries and respond appropriately.

Understanding AI talking avatars

The ‘mirror’ interview takes the concept of AI talking avatars, based on NLU and brings it front and centre as we increasingly grapple with the blurring boundaries between technology and human capability.

AI talking avatars are digital characters designed to interact with users naturally, providing personalised messages and information.

Unlike traditional chatbots, they go beyond basic responses by adapting to the user’s unique communication style over time. Through sophisticated machine learning algorithms, and NLU, they can recognise patterns in user speech or text inputs, allowing them to mimic the user’s language use and deliver responses that feel more personalised and human-like.

These digital creations have the capability to adjust their tone, language, and messaging based on user preferences and behavior patterns, enhancing the overall user experience.

They represent a significant advancement in customer interaction technology, real-time assistance, and proactive engagement to enhance user experiences across various platforms.

As AI continues to advance, events like DeepFest serve as platforms for exploring the possibilities and navigating the ethical considerations surrounding its development and integration into everyday life.

Thought leaders, policy makers, entrepreneurs and users will come together to discuss and ideate the potential of AI at the upcoming DeepFest 2024. The region’s premier artificial intelligence AI event is being held from March 4 to 7 in Riyadh.
