The one and only funnyman John Cleese is back in Dubai much to the delight of his large fan base in the UAE.

Dubai Opera and Motivate Talent will be presenting ‘An Evening with the late John Cleese‘ on Saturday, March 18 at 7.30 pm, featuring the veteran actor and comedian in his element.

At 83 years of age, Cleese’s boundless energy and inimitable sense of humour are sure to leave you in splits and thoroughly entertained.

Performing at Dubai Opera’s Performing Arts Centre, the British comic and actor will regale the audience with funny anecdotes and sharp wisecracks that showcase his life and career.

So if you’re in the mood for a good laugh (and who isn’t these days) – this is the show for you. Tickets in the silver category are Dhs235 and Dhs315 for gold.   • Born in October 1939, Cleese began his career as a playwright and cast member for the Footlights Revue A Clump Of Plinths in his early 20s.
  • The legendary comedian was an avid entertainer from an early age, beginning at the age of 13 and he excelled in sports such as cricket and boxing and academics.
  • Cleese is undoubtedly the tallest comedian in history. At the tender age of 12, he had already reached an impressive height of six feet, making him a target of teasing and torment from his peers.
  • He studied and graduated with a law degree from Cambridge, but he found his true calling in comedy.
  • The veteran British comedian, actor and film producer specialises in black humour, satire, surreal humour and television comedy skits. He has appeared in movies such as A Fish Called Wanda, two Harry Potter films and the James Bond series as the new ‘Q’, starting with The World Is Not Enough (1999), in which he began as ‘R’ before graduating to ‘Q’.
  • He lends his voice to numerous animated and video projects and frequently does commercials. Cleese was a key part of the iconic programmes Monty Python and the Flying Circus. He also co-wrote and performed in Fawlty Towers, a popular BBC sitcom.
  • Education and learning are important elements of Cleese’s life – he was rector of the University of Saint Andrews from 1973 until 1976 and continues to be a professor-at-large of Cornell University in New York.
  • He is also a philanthropist; he has sponsored several charities, including Amnesty International, Dream Foundation and the Small Steps Project.
  • There is a species of lemur named after Cleese. A lemur species in Madagascar was named after him in 2005 in honour of his conservation work.
  • The comedian and actor made his first mark on the world as a legendary Monty Python troupe member in the 1960s. He has gone on to write, produce and star in some of the greatest comedic hits of the last 50 years and has even won an Oscar nomination for the best screenplay for A Fish Called Wanda.
  • Cleese is also a celebrated author and has recently written a book on creativity.
