Real estate developer Arada has awarded a Dhs423m contract to Best Building Contracting Company to build East Village, the second phase of Sharjah’s Dhs24bn mixed-use district, Aljada.

The contract includes construction of 16 apartment blocks, nearly 2,000 units, in the East Village, work on which will commence immediately.

Arada said in a statement on its website that nearly 95 per cent of the units in the East Village community are sold out, with the project set to be completed by 2021.

“We thank investors in East Village for their trust and will now work to ensure that their homes are built rapidly and to the highest level of quality. We have chosen a partner with a track record of stability and success to construct this special community, and we look forward to working with them to bring East Village to life,” said Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, chairman of Arada.

Located in the fast-growing Muwaileh district in the heart of New Sharjah, Aljada is a master-planned destination spread over a 24 million square feet.

Best Building Contracting Company’s previous projects include two Al Zahra Hospitals (in Sharjah and Dubai) and several high-rises in Sharjah including Al Hind Tower, Crystal Building, Sara Tower and Al Qassimi Building.

In July, Arada announced that its first-half sales had increased by 10 per cent year-on-year, citing significant investor uptake from UAE nationals as well as ramped-up interest following the successful opening of new entertainment complex Madar at Aljada in February.

Madar features a food district called Zad, a free drive-in movie theatre, the Aljada Discovery Centre designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, a children’s adventure playground called Playscape and a skatepark too.

Besides residential districts, the development also includes retail, hospitality, commercial, healthcare and education offerings.

Homes within the first phase of Aljada, known as First Avenue, are being readied to hand over possession in the third quarter of this year.

In 2019, Arada also said that it would construct Sharjah’s first purpose-built student accommodation, called Nest, in Aljada that will include 10 five-storey buildings spread across a 35,000 square metres.
