Abu Dhabi developer Aldar Properties has awarded a Dhs335m ($91.2m) contract to Al Rakha Contracting and General Transport for its Alghadeer project.

The award comes after the company announced a $2.7bn master plan for Abu Dhabi/Dubai border community in April spanning 14,408 villa, townhouse and maisonette units across an area of 1.3 million square metres.

Aldar said Al Rakha would be the main contactor for the first neighbourhood in the second phase of the project and build 707 maisonettes, townhouses and villas.

“From its location at the centre of the UAE, Alghadeer offers residents a peaceful community with sustainable living initiatives within close proximity to both Abu Dhabi and Dubai. We have seen solid interest in Alghadeer which expands our successful destination-led strategy to new areas of the emirate,” said Aldar CEO Talal Al Dhiyebi.

Aldar has begun selling two plans with the community and is partnering with Hyperloop Transportation Technologies to build the world’s first commercial hyperloop system there.

Construction of the high speed transport system is hoped to begin in the third quarter of next year.
