Abu Dhabi, Dubai announce free parking for Islamic New Year

The government has declared a public and private sector holiday on Thursday

Authorities in Abu Dhabi and Dubai have announced free parking for the Islamic New Year holiday.

Both public and private sector workers have been given Thursday, September 13 off to celebrate the occasion, which officially falls today (Tuesday).

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Transport said surface parking bays would be free of charge from Thursday to 7:59am on Saturday, September 15.

However, bays will still be subject to resident permit regulation from 9:00pm to 8:00am.

All customer centres in the capital will be closed until Sunday, September 16.

Abu Dhabi introduced paid parking across the city last month.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport said all paid parking zones would be free on Thursday and Friday with the exception of multi-level parking terminals.

Fees will be reactivated on Saturday.

The RTA also announced revised timings for buses, the metro, tram and marine transit services.
