Abu Dhabi Airports announced that it has appointed Abdul Majeed Al Khoori as its new acting chief executive officer.

In a brief statement, the company said that CEO Mohamed Mubarak Al Mazrouei has now been appointed as an advisor to the chairman.

No further details were disclosed.

It is unclear whether Al Khoori will continue his current role as the chief financial officer.

Al Mazrouei was appointed to lead the Abu Dhabi International Airport operator in April last year, after former Abu Dhabi Airports CEO Tony Douglas resigned to move back to the UK.

Along with overseeing the operation of Abu Dhabi Airports’ portfolio of five airports, he was tasked with spearheading the development of the massive Midfield Terminal Building.

The 700,000 square metre building – set to be the largest in the emirate – will help Abu Dhabi International Airport increase its overall capacity to 45 million passengers a year.

It is anticipated to open in 2017.
