Abu Dhabi Police travel to US following shooting of Emirati student

Officials from Abu Dhabi Police Department have joined a UAE Embassy consular team representing the interests of the family of an Emirati student shot dead by US police in Hudson, Ohio.

Saif Nasser Mubarak Ali Alameri, 26, was killed by a gunshot to the head last Sunday after fleeing from a car crash.

The shooting occurred after a struggle with an officer when Alameri was found in nearby woods, according to Akron Beacon Journal.

In a statement, the UAE Embassy in the US said the combined consular and police group met with state investigators, the medical examiner and with the Hudson chief of police.

“The UAE Embassy wishes to express our deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Alameri. We are in close contact with the family and we have done our best to provide support and assistance to them during this difficult time,” UAE Ambassador to the United States Yousef Al Otaiba was quoted as saying.

“I spoke earlier today with Ohio Governor John Kasich. In our call, I thanked the governor for the cooperation that state officials have provided so far. I also emphasised the importance of a thorough, transparent and timely investigation into the tragic shooting death of Mr. Alameri.”
