Home Technology Artificial Intelligence ADNOC deploys AIQ’s AI-powered RoboWell at offshore NASR field This marks the world’s first offshore deployment of AIQ’s RoboWell, according to a statement by ADNOC by Gulf Business July 11, 2024 Image: Supplied The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has deployed RoboWell, an artificial intelligence (AI) autonomous well-control solution developed by AIQ, at its offshore NASR field. This marks the world’s first offshore deployment of RoboWell. RoboWell, developed in partnership with Abu Dhabi-based AIQ, uses cloud-based AI algorithms to operate wells, adjusting in real-time to changing conditions autonomously. This technology enhances operational safety, boosts efficiency, reduces the need for travel and physical interventions and minimises emissions. “The offshore deployment of RoboWell at NASR field demonstrates how ADNOC is harnessing the power of AI as we responsibly meet growing global energy demand,” said Abdulmunim Saif Al Kindy, ADNOC Upstream executive director. ADNOC focused on becoming AI-enabled company “ADNOC aims to become the world’s most AI-enabled energy company, integrating AI from the control room to the boardroom to maximise efficiency and move towards autonomous operations. Through our partnership with AIQ, we are leveraging the UAE’s world-leading expertise in energy and AI to help transform the future of energy,” he added. Located 130 kilometres northwest of Abu Dhabi, NASR is a fully digital offshore field utilising a suite of technology solutions to maximise production and minimise emissions. RoboWell has been initially deployed across 10 wells at NASR, with plans to expand the AI solution to over 300 wells across ADNOC’s offshore and onshore operations this year. “AIQ leverages AI and machine learning solutions that unlock value across the entire energy sector value chain,” said Dr Chris Cooper, AIQ CEO. “RoboWell has already proven to deliver up to 30 per cent optimisation in gas lift consumption and a 5 per cent increase in operating efficiency. The expanded implementation of RoboWell represents a pivotal step for AIQ and ADNOC. By harnessing this leading-edge technology, we are enabling ADNOC to drive greater value from its resources and further optimise its operations.” RoboWell was developed by AIQ in collaboration with the energy giant’s Thamama Excellence Center, a high-tech hub that leverages big data, digitalisation, and smart analytics to access hydrocarbon resources and unlock greater value from existing reservoirs. The solution was first deployed in 2023 at the onshore NEB field, ADNOC’s first “smart field,” which has been at the forefront of implementing industry-leading AI-enabled advanced technologies. In other news, the energy company signed a general agreement with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) to establish a $3bn (Dhs11bn) green financing facility. The company is investing $23bn (Dhs84.4bn) to decarbonise its operations and accelerate the growth of future energies, including hydrogen, geothermal, renewables, and carbon capture technologies.
