Expo 2020 Dubai pavilions: Uzbekistan, US, Spain, Finland, UK, Oman, Sri Lanka, Brazil

Expo 2020 Dubai is the very first world expo where every participating country has its own pavilion.

Each of the 192 country pavilions – spread across the three main districts of sustainability, mobility and opportunity – will have the chance to showcase their innovations and strategies.

Here’s a glimpse at another eight of the 192 pavilions at this year’s event.

Uzbekistan
Location: Sustainability District | Architect: OP3 Expo

Expo 2020 Dubai marks the very first World Expo in which Uzbekistan will have its own pavilion. The 1,739sqm pavilion, which has been built with 90 per cent sustainable materials, will have three sections showcasing the past, present and future of the country.

The three elliptical structures of the Uzbek pavilion symbolise the three historical cities of the Great Silk Road – Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva.

Under the theme of ‘Mapping the Future Pathway’ the country will focus on showcasing its technological developments and recent reforms to attract trade and stimulate investments. Visitors will also have a chance to sample authentic Uzbek cuisine.

US
Location: Opportunity District | Architect: Woods Bagot

The pavilion of the world’s third largest country by population offers a ‘moving walkway’. This transportation mechanism runs through the pavilion, offering guests the opportunity to experience major exhibits in a unique way. Visitors can also experience an eight-minute looping show taking place in the ceiling of the pavilion or savour authentic American food in the courtyard.

Spain
Location: Sustainability District | Architect: Amann-Canovas-Maruri

The Spanish pavilion’s motto ‘Intelligence for life’, reflects its priorities in the face of innovation and a desire to preserve the quality of life for generations to come. From the materials used on its facade to the furniture, every element is designed to promote a discussion around the future and the world’s ability to influence it.

The pavilion also offers an immersive exhibition gallery related to the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, while guests can sample Spanish culinary delights.

Finland
Location: Mobility District | Architecture: JKMM

The main theme of ‘Snow Cape’, the Finnish pavilion, is ‘Sharing Future Happiness’. Resembling an Arabic tent made of snow, the pavilion aims to bring together the country’s icy landscapes with the culture of the host nation. The pavilion appears as a simple, cubic volume with an entrance facing towards the front plaza. Meanwhile, the ‘Finnish Majlis’ on the second level, serves as a meeting place to connect minds.

UK
Location: Opportunity District | Architecture: Es Devlin Studio

The UK pavilion, inspired by one of Stephen Hawking’s final projects, ‘Breakthrough Message’, beckons guests to consider the message they would communicate as a planet should they encounter other advanced civilisations in space one day.

The pavilion presents a continuously changing collective message generated by AI and visitors’ contributions. Meanwhile, the UK National Day on February 10, 2022, will offer a showcase of acts.

Brazil
Location: Sustainability District | Architect: JPG.ARQ, MMBB And Ben-Avid

Discover incredible diversity, from flora and fauna to arts and culture at the Brazilian pavilion. Guests will experience the Amazon Basin as well as sights and sounds reminiscent of the country at the event. Visitors will also discover how to harness nature to create a sustainable future.

Oman
Location: Mobility District | Architecture: F&M Middle East

The Omani pavilion encourages visitors to travel through years of the sultanate’s progress and collaboration.

Sri Lanka 
Location: Opportunity District | Architecture: Thematic District Pavilion

Designed along the theme of water, the pavilion offers an interesting tea odyssey, from leaf to cup. Via digital screens, visitors will explore different best practices from various sectors in Sri Lanka as well as discover the country’s key tourist attractions, covering culture and heritage, preserved ecosystems, and more.
