UAE confirms private sector holiday to mark Prophet Mohammad’s birthday

The UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation confirmed that all private sector employees will receive a paid holiday on Thursday, October 29, to mark the birthday of Prophet Mohammad.

Therefore, private sector employees will have a three-day weekend, and will resume work on Sunday, November 1.

The announcement was made via a circular issued by Nasser bin Thani Al Hamli, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

It was based on a resolution from the UAE Cabinet on official national holidays.

The birthday of Prophet Mohammad is observed on the 12th day of Rabi Al Awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar.

All licenced venues in Dubai will not be permitted to serve alcohol between 5.30pm on Wednesday, October 28 until 6.30pm on Thursday, October 29.

Last week, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources confirmed that all public sector employees would also have a holiday on October 29.
