Saudi forces intercept another drone targeting kingdom

The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen intercepted and shot down another Houthi drone targeting the kingdom, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The drone was fired from Imran in Yemen on Saturday, coalition spokesperson Colonel Turki Al-Maliki said.

He stressed that all attempts to launch drones by the Houthis are “doomed to fail”. He said the coalition undertakes the required operational procedures to deal with the drones to protect civilians.

The recently repeated terrorist attempts by the Houthis are the “result of the great losses” in their supplies and equipment, he said.

Al-Maliki said the Houthi attempts to target civilians were in clear “violation of international humanitarian law” and added that the coalition will continue to carry out “strict and deterrent measures to neutralise and destroy their capabilities”.

The kingdom has seen a spate of Houthi drone and missile attacks in recent months.

The coalition intercepted and shot down six missiles fired by the Houthis towards the city of Jizan last month, while a drone attack on an oilfield in eastern Saudi caused a fire at a gas plant. Saudi forces also intercepted drones heading towards “civilian airports” in the kingdom.
