Zain, the Kuwaiti telecoms operator, has announced a change to its management structure, creating the positions of deputy chief executive and chief operating officer.

The announcement on Sunday reveals Hisham Akbar has been appointed to both roles while Jawdat al-Dajani has been named chief commercial officer.

Akbar had previously been acting chief commercial officer. The telecoms firm, which has operations in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Sudan, South Sudan, Bahrain, Jordan and Lebanon, reported a one per cent rise in second-quarter profit in August.

Late last month Zain confirmed it was close to sealing a deal with Vodafone that would allow the global telecoms group access to its Middle East networks.

The agreement would cover several countries in the region including Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Bahrain, allowing Vodafone to offer its customers from other countries lower roaming fees when travelling in the region.

Zain’s shares ended flat on Kuwait’s bourse on Sunday, down 23 per cent in 2012.
