Female employees in Saudi Arabia’s private sector are been given up to SAR800 ($218) per month towards the cost of their travel to and from work.

The financial assistance is part of the Saudi Human Resourced Development Fund’s Wusul programme to support the transfer of working women, and covers around 80 per cent of their transport fees.

To qualify for the scheme, working women must have been registered with the social welfare system for less than 36 months, and receive a maximum monthly salary of SAR8,000 ($2,178). They are then provided with transportation services in partnership with private taxi companies through licenses smart apps.

When the Wusul programme was launched in November 2017, more than 5,000 women applied. The initiative was announced at the same time as the Qurrah programme for childcare, which received more than 3,500 applications from working women.
