Home GCC UAE Wizz Air Abu Dhabi launches new route to Asian destination The thrice-weekly flights to Mattala in Sri Lanka will commence from June 1, 2022 by Varun Godinho March 10, 2022 Wizz Air Abu Dhabi has launched a new route from Abu Dhabi to Mattala in Sri Lanka. It marks the airline’s first destination to South Asia. The thrice-weekly flight will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The flights will commence from June 1, 2022. It will depart from Abu Dhabi at 1.25pm and arrive in Mattala at 8.05pm. The return flight meanwhile will take off from Mattala at 8.40pm and arrive in Abu Dhabi the following day at 12.55am. Tickets for the flights have already gone on sale with fares starting from Dhs179. “With Wizz Air’s low airfare rates, we also anticipate the Sri Lankan employee market in UAE to vastly benefit from travel between the two regions which is expected to be extremely economical,” said D. V. Chanaka, Sri Lankan State Minister of Aviation and Export Zones Development. In February, the airline began flights to Nur-Sultan in Kazakhstan, Yerevan in Armenia, and Krasnodar in Russia. The new routes are serviced by the airline’s four brand-new Airbus A321neo aircraft. Earlier this year, the airline which is a joint venture established between ADQ and Wizz Air Holdings celebrated its one-year anniversary.
