According to the dates announced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), July 7 will be marked as the first day of the Islamic Hijri Calendar. MoHRE has, hence, declared July 7 a paid public holiday for private sector employees in the UAE. The decision, announced on Tuesday, aligns with the occasion of Hijri New Year, which falls on Muharram 1 of the Islamic calendar, marking the start of the new Hijri year 1446 AH. This holiday results in an extended break for government employees and those in private sector companies operating on a 5-day work-week, as Oman observes a Sunday to Thursday work week. Holiday dates for 2024 Looking ahead, UAE residents can anticipate a few more holidays before the year concludes. These include celebrations for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s birthday and National Day, both offering extended weekends, as per the official list of holidays for 2024 released by the country’s Cabinet. #UAE_Cabinet approves official holidays calendar for government and private sectors for year 2024 pic.twitter.com/HHtIQawNy8 — UAEGOV (@UAEmediaoffice) November 21, 2023 Read: Public holiday dates in 2025: UAE announces calendar Tags Hijri New Year Islamic New Year Muharram You might also like UAE: Ramadan, Eid Al Fitr 2024 expected dates revealed UAE announces Hijri New Year holiday for financial markets Islamic New Year 1445: Saudi Arabia announces the first day of Muharram Islamic New Year 2023: UAE announces holiday dates for public and private sector
