The United States will reportedly soon set up customs and border protection pre-clearing facilities at Riyadh and Jeddah’s international airports to process passengers before they arrive in the country.

Sources told Saudi publication Okaz the facilities will allow passengers to undertake all immigration, customs and agriculture inspections before departure.

Currently Abu Dhabi International is one of the only airports in the region with a US-pre clearing facility.

It processed 615,000 people bound for the US last year.

After clearing the facility passengers are able to check their baggage for their final destination.

Their flight then lands at domestic arrivals upon arrival in the US for faster processing and entry to the country.

Wait times at US international immigration can be more than an hour during peak times, with queues notoriously long at popular entry points.
