Dubai-based budget carrier flydubai is restarting its flights to Taif in Saudi Arabia from April 15 with a daily service.

Taif, located less than 100 kilometres east of Mecca in a valley on the eastern side of the Hejaz mountains, is a popular summer holiday destination.

Due its cooler climate and fertile land, the region is also called ‘Garden of the Hejaz’. Taif, known as the City of Roses, has more than 900 rose farms produce more than 300 million flowers every spring.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO at flydubai, said: “We are pleased to see our network grow to offer more than 95 unique destinations. The network expansion has been supported by our growing fleet as we continue to take delivery of more aircraft over the next few months. We look forward to welcoming passengers back on our flights to Taif and thank the authorities for their continuous support.”

With the restarting of daily flights to Taif, flydubai’s network in Saudi Arabia has grown to seven destinations, including AlUla, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Riyadh and Yanbu. Currently, flydubai flies to 95 destinations in 50 countries operated by a fleet of 63 Boeing 737 aircraft.

In other developments, flydubai announced it will operate flights to select destinations from Dubai World Central (DWC) due to the upcoming planned 45-day closure of the northern runway at Dubai International Airport (DXB). The closure, which will be from May 9 until June 22, is to carry out a complete refurbishment of the runway.

Flights to 34 destinations from flydubai’s network will operate from DWC during the runway refurbishment project, including flights to Addis Ababa, Bahrain, Delhi, Jeddah, Kuwait, Mumbai, Muscat and Riyadh. Flights to five of these destinations will also be available from DXB, the airline has stated.
