UAE’s Al Jaber Group Wins Contract To Build New Airport in Saudi Arabia

The project will include a new passenger terminal covering an area of 86,000 square metres and will be built to accommodate around five million passengers annually.

Abu Dhabi-based construction firm Al Jaber Group announced that it has been awarded the contract to develop the new airport in Abha, Saudi Arabia.

The company said that the new contract is worth SAR1.8 billion ($490 million).

The project will include a new passenger terminal covering an area of 86,000 square metres and built to accommodate around five million passengers annually.

It will also include 20 passenger boarding bridges, an apron for planes to park and parallel corridors to accommodate 26 planes simultaneously.

The airport, which is scheduled to be completed in 36 months, will also have a car park building, which will accommodate up to 2,800 cars.

“Al Jaber Group KSA branch is witnessing substantial growth since we started our operations in Riyadh last year,” said Obaid Khaleefa Al Jaber Al Marri, chairman of Al Jaber Group.

“We were able to compete and win sizable projects mainly the Abha Airport development project.”

Following the contract win, Al Jaber Group is also eyeing new projects in the Kingdom, Al Marri said.

“We are looking to winning more projects in the Saudi market in the near future. Al Jaber Group is well positioned to benefit from the increased momentum in the launch of new projects in this strategic market”.

Al Jaber Group, which signed a debt restructuring deal with creditors last year, is recouping its operations in the UAE’s construction sector.

The Abu Dhabi-based family business recently won a deal worth Dhs2.57 billion to construct 40 residential buildings in the capital. The contract included the construction of 1,920 residential units for the staff of state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company in Ruwais.
