UAE weather update: Dust storms expected, temperatures to reach 47°C

Winds associated with dust are expected to hit parts of the country, reducing horizontal visibility over some coastal and internal areas, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has said.

“Moderate to fresh winds and strong at times over the sea [are expected], causing blowing and suspended dust and sand especially Westward with poor horizontal visibility,” NCM said in its weather bulletin.

The sea will be moderate to rough in the Arabian Gulf  and slight in Oman Sea, NCM added.

Suspended dust reduced the horizontal visibility to 400m in Dalma Island and to 100m in Umm Al Sheif Island. Meanwhile, temperatures will hit highs of 47°C and lows of 23°C amid internal areas today, while it will hover between 24-40°C in the coastal areas and islands, and range between 26-40°C in the mountains, the NCM added.

The country recorded its lowest temperature of 22.4°C in Jazeera (Al Dhafra region) at 4.15am local time.
